Day 58

I went for a walk today and saw this dog. He was patiently waiting for his owner in front of the CVS.

Ich hab heute einen kleinen Spaziergang gemacht und bin dabei diesem Hund über den Weg gelaufen. Sein Herrchen war im Drogeriemarkt, und der Hund hat geduldig vor der Tür gewartet.

This is the book that I am currently reading. It's pretty good; the author goes in search of the Tarahumara Indians, a tribe whose people are supposed to be able to run with joy for days on end. Take a look at it when you see it in the store!

Das ist das neueste Buch das ich lese. Bis jetzt ist es ganz gut! Der Author macht sich auf die Suche nach dem Tarahumara Indianerstamm. Die Tarahumaras können angeblich tagelang rennen, und es macht ihnen auch noch Spaß! Werft einen Blick rein, falls ihr es im Laden seht!

Heute haben meine Geschwister und ich Cocktails beim Top of the Hub Restaurant getrunken - das war auch bitter nötig, weil ich die zwei schon lange nicht mehr gesehen hatte! Das müssen wir bald wieder machen :)

Crayola makes super-advanced colored pencils. No more sharpening and cleaning up little bits of wood... these colored pencil bits just twist out of their plastic case.

Die Firma Crayola produziert ultra moderne Farbstifte. Die muss man nicht mehr anspitzen, da dreht man einfach an einer kleinen Kappe, und schon kommt mehr Farbstift raus...

After a little freak snow storm yesterday, the sun did its best to melt some of it this morning :)

The weather report this morning mentioned "snow likely." Yeah, snow is what we got...! And some poor soul must be running around barefoot...? As seen at Kenmore Sq today :)

Der Wettermann hat heute morgen vorrausgesagt dass wir heute "vermutlich" Schnee kriegen. Yup, da hat er wohl Recht gehabt...! Und irgendein armer Mensch rennt jetzt barfuß durch die Gegend?

Day 46

Today is President's Day, and to celebrate this holiday, the university was closed! I went into work anyways, and due to the empty hallways, it turned into quite a productive work day :) Today's subjects: beads and a bracelet, indoors (which means, I got home in the dark again...)

Heute ist "President's Day," ein Feiertag in den Staaten. Deshalb hatte die Uni auch offiziell geschlossen, aber da ich einen Schlüssel zu meinem Gebäude habe... hat mich nichts aufgehalten, trotzdem zum Schreibtisch zu kommen. Es waren kaum Leute da, und weil alles so ruhig war, war ich auch richtig produktiv :) Heute vor dem Objektiv: Perlen und ein Armband (ich bin mal wieder im Dunkeln nach Hause gekommen...)

Day 44

During the winter months, they drain the fountain at Copley Square. The empty basin turns into a mini skater park for local youth :) I like the action pose I caught, but there are two things I would like to change: 1) the weather (it was cloudy - sunshine please!) 2) the skater's clothes - his dark clothes make him blend into the background :(

Im Winter schalten sie den Brunnen beim Copley Square ab. Junge Skateboarder nutzen das leere Becken dann als Skateboard Park :) Ich mag die Pose des Skaters, aber wenn ich könnte, würde ich zwei Dinge ändern: 1) das Wetter (es war bewölkt... wo ist die Sonne?!) 2) die Kleider des Skaters. Seine dunklen Kleider heben ihn nicht sehr gut vom Hintergrund ab :(

Day 43

My department at university might be a Science one... but that doesn't mean we don't know how to appreciate art ;) This piece is hanging up on the wall in the lobby of my building. I'm not the only one who has no idea what it's about :P

Mein Fakultät an der Uni gehört eigentlich eher in den naturwissenschaftlichen Bereich. Das heißt aber noch lange nicht, dass wir nicht Interesse an Kunst zeigen... Dieses Bild hängt in unserem Foyer. Ich bin nicht die Einzige, die keine Ahnung hat was es darstellen soll :P

I have three lucky bamboo stalks growing in a glass vase. I think I might have to get a bigger pot for them, because the roots are taking over! They do make interesting patterns :)

Ich hab drei Bambuspflanzen die in einer Glasvase wachsen. Ich glaube, ich muss irgendwann eine Größere kaufen, weil es den Wurzeln langsam etwas eng wird :)

Day 41

I love the vibrant shades of green :) This is left-over hand spun yarn. I always had plans to turn it into a hat or something. Maybe it's time to dig up them old knitting needles?!

Ich mag die schönen Grüntöne dieser von Hand gesponnenen Wolle. Eigentlich wollte ich dieses Knäuel immer mal in eine Mütze verwandeln... vielleicht ist es an der Zeit, die alten Stricknadeln mal wieder rauszukramen?!

Homework Assignments - Composition

For this week's assignment, we had to bring in pictures that were only shot in one room; either the kitchen or the bathroom, but not both. My instructor wanted us to think creatively about how to use the small space. I bought a macro lens last week, so I tried practicing shooting with that one, as well. Consequently, lots of the photos I took were "up close and personal" :) Below are the pictures I brought in to class. Some of them also made it into my project365, so they might look familiar.

Diese Woche sollten wir sechs Bilder mitbringen, die in einem einzigen Zimmer gemacht wurden. Entweder in der Küche oder im Badezimmer, aber nicht in beiden Räumen. Mein Lehrer wollte uns ermuntern, kreativer zu denken, weil wir nur einen kleinen Raum zur Verfügung haben. Letzte Woche hatte ich ein Makroobjektiv gekauft, und das musste natürlich gleich ausprobiert werden. Deshalb sind viele meiner Fotos Nahaufnahmen. Hier sind die Bilder die ich zum Unterricht mitgebracht habe. Manche kommen euch vielleicht bekannt vor, weil ich sie auch schon in meinem Projekt 365 verwendet habe.

Day 38

Colorful plates in the kitchen this morning :) For my assignment this week, I have to shoot either in the kitchen or in the bathroom. I don't think my bathroom is that interesting ;) so I tried some shots in the kitchen today. I really liked the colors of the plates, they look so cheerful :)

Bunte Teller in der Küche heute morgen. Für meine Hausaufgaben diese Woche soll ich Fotos entweder im Bad oder in der Küche machen. Ich finde dass mein Bad nicht sehr interessant aussieht ;) ... deshalb habe ich mir heute meine Küche näher angeschaut. Ich mag besonders die Farben der Teller - die sehen sehr fröhlich aus :)

Day 37

A friend of mine came to visit today, and we went to see the Harry Potter exhibit at the Museum of Science. Unfortunately, the place was really crowded and we hadn't booked our tickets ahead of time, so we ended up with a few hours of free time to kill before the exhibit. So we got lunch, and then stopped by Mike's Pastry in the North End. I got a box of random cookies, including some fantastic rainbow cookies (and the one on the right is an apricot cookie - also very tasty!).

Heute bin ich mit einer Freundin zum Science Museum gegangen um die Harry Potter Ausstellung zu besuchen. Leider war das Museum so voll dass wir nicht gleich reinkonnten, sondern erst mal ein paar Stunden "Freizeit" hatten (nächstes Mal werden wir unsere Tickets im Vorraus buchen!). Gelangweilt haben wir uns allerdings trotzdem nicht, weil wir nach dem Mittagessen ins "North End" geschlendert sind. Das ist der italienische Stadtteil Bostons, und da gibt es die "Mike's Pastry" Bäckerei! Ich habe eine Schachtel mit verschiedenen Keksen gekauft, und es gab auch italienische "Rainbow Cookies." Die schmecken hauptsächlich nach Mandel und Marzipan (lecker!) und der Keks rechts im Bild hat eine Aprikosenfüllung (auch sehr gut!).

Day 36

I played around with my macro lens today. I noticed that the autofocus seems to have a hard time finding something to focus on whenever I use the lens. When using manual focus, I tend to get camera shake. What to do...? Practice some more, I guess :) Either way, I really like the shallow depth of field I get with the macro lens!

Heute habe ich mit meinem Makro-Objektiv fotografiert. Ich hab festgestellt dass die Autofokuseinstellung nicht so gut funktioniert wenn ich mit dem Makro-Objektiv fotografiere. Irgendwie hat es Probleme, einen Anhaltepunkt zu finden. Wenn ich aber zum manuellen Fokus umschalte, verwackelt das Bild weil ich die Kamera nicht ruhig genug halten kann. Es sieht so aus als ob ich mehr üben muss :) Trotzdem mag ich die Effekte des Makro-Objektives.

Mini craft project today! I've always wanted to make some sort of display for my earrings, because I have so many... (yes, I know I am a girly girl!) So on a whim, I picked up a picture frame at TJMaxx, cut away the back, and put in some thin wire. My roommate thought I was crazy (in a good way :) )

Heute war Basteltag! Ich hab einen ganzen Haufen Ohrringe, und nie wirklich Platz um sie alle aufzubewahren. Heute hab ich einen Fotorahmen gekauft, die Rückseite weggeschnitten, und dünne Drähte gespannt... Meine Mitbewohnerin fand's gut :)

I went to the library to pick up a few books today and caught a picture of the John Hancock Tower in the evening light.

Heute bin ich bei der Stadtbibliothek vorbeigegangen um ein paar Bücher abzuholen. Das ist der John Hancock Tower der gleich neben der Bücherei steht.

Day 32

Hooray for making it to February! Wow, I was so tired today! I sort of nodded off during parts of my photography class (you know, the part when the teacher turns off the light so that you can see the projected slide show a little bit better...!). On my way home, I took a few photos in the subway with my cell phone... and I guess I wasn't the only one tired today ;) The edge of the subway station is really that yellow, by the way. But somehow I doubt that the Wizard is living at the end of *this* yellow road :)

Hurra, ich hab es bis zum Februar geschafft! Irgendwie war ich den ganzen Tag sehr müde. Ich bin sogar in meinem Fotokurs etwas eingenickt. Mein Lehrer hatte nämlich den Raum abgedunkelt um uns ein paar Bilder in einer Slide Show zu zeigen... Auf dem Nachhauseweg habe ich ein paar Fotos in der U-Bahn Station geschossen. Es sieht so aus als ob ich nicht der einzige müde Passant war ;) Übrigens ist die Kante der U-Bahn Plattform wirklich so gelb. Ich bezweifle allerdings das der Zauberer von Oz am Ende *dieses* gelben Ziegelsteinwegs wohnt :)
