Leaf peeping in New Hampshire

I went to visit some friends in New Hampshire over the weekend. This is what their new backyard looks like -- an ogre-friendly swamp! It's protected land, so no one is allowed to build there... except the beavers :)

Am Wochenende habe ich ein paar Freunde in New Hampshire besucht. Das ist Teil ihres neuen Gartens -- ein Sumpf! Da das Land unter Naturschutz steht darf man es nicht bebauen... bis auf die Biber, natürlich :)

Visiting Walden Pond

Julia and I went to Walden Pond this weekend. We looked at a replica house of Henry David Thoreau, took a walk around the lake, and then Julia went for a swim. Even though summer is officially over, the water was still really warm!

Am Wochenende sind Julia und ich zu Walden Pond gefahren. Wir haben uns Henry David Thoreau's Haus angeschaut, sind einmal um den See gelaufen, und dann ist Julia schwimmen gegangen. Obwohl der Sommer offiziel vorbei ist, war das Wasser noch sehr warm!

I have a whole pile of pictures from August. For once, my cousin came to visit me, and then I went to San Diego to stay with my parents for a little bit. Enjoy!

I found a whole collection of pictures today from the ninth annual International Workshop on Bioinformatics and Systems Biology. This year, the workshop was hosted by Boston University. We had guests from mostly Germany and Japan, where we have lots of partner universities. I think everyone had a lot of fun, especially on the Duckboat tour through the city and the Boston Harbor Cruise.

Heute hab ich eine ganze Menge Fotos vom neunten International Workshop on Bioinformatics and Systems Biology Kongress gefunden. Dieses Jahr wurde der der Kongress von Boston University organisiert. Die meisten Gäste kamen aus Deutschland und Japan. Dort haben wir viele Partneruniversitäten. Alle hatten viel Spaß, besonders bei der Duckboat tour durch Boston, und der Boston Harbor Cruise.

BBQ at Niels and Lorena's

One of the guys from my lab got married in Vegas a little while ago. Since not everyone could attend the wedding, he hosted a post-wedding BBQ party. Again, some of these pictures were taken by a friend.

Einer meiner Kommilitonen hat kürzlich in Las Vegas geheiratet. Weil nicht jeder dabei sein konnte, hat er später für Freunde und Bekannte noch eine Grillparty veranstaltet. Ein paar der Fotos habe ich von einem Freund bekommen.

Evan's Going Away Party

Garden Party

After weeks and weeks of rain (or at least it felt like that to us here in Boston!) we finally got a single sunny day! Lucky me, I had an invitation to a garden party at a friend's house :) His daughter turned ONE, and what better way to celebrate than with good Indian food, Badminton and Volleyball games, great conversations, dance performances, and ice cream and cake! By the way, it looks like I wasn't attending the party... I'm seriously in no single picture! I had to steal one from a friend off of Facebook to prove that I *was* there.

Nachdem wir wochenlang im Regen festsaßen (oder zumindest schien es hier in Boston so zu sein) hatten wir endlich einen sonnigen Tag! Glücklicherweise hatte ich eine Einladung zu der Gartenparty eines Freundes. Seine Tochter ist ein Jahr alt geworden, und das ist natürlich Grund zum Feiern - mit leckerem Indischen Essen, Badminton- und Volleyballspielen, netter Konversation, Tanzeinlagen, und Eis und Kuchen! Übrigens, es sieht so aus als ob ich nicht bei der Party war... Ich hab kein einziges Bild von mir! Ich musste mir eins von einem Freund "ausleihen" um euch zu beweisen dass ich da war.

Charles River Festival

My friend Laura came to visit this weekend. Luckily for us, the weather was finally beautiful again (after about a week of on-and-off rain), and the Charles River Festival was happening on Saturday! We got to hear some great live music, visit artist and vendor booths, get free food samples (always a hit with poor college students!), watch a lion dance, make hand soap and help bind a book, watch hip hop and swing dance performances... and we ended the day with a serving of great ice cream :)

Meine Freundin Laura kam am Wochenende zu Besuch. Glücklicherweise war das Wetter schön (nachdem wir gerade eine regnerische Woche hinter uns hatten) und wir beschlossen zum Charles River Festival zu gehen. Es gab gute live Musik, Stände mit Selbstgebasteltem, Kostproben von verschiedenen Getränken und Essen (sowas lieben arme Studenten!), eine Löwentanz Vorführung, und Hip Hop- und Swingtanzvorführungen. Wir durften auch selber Seife herstellen (und mitnehmen!) und halfen, ein Buch zu binden. Der Tag endete mit sehr gutem Eis :)
