Garden Party

After weeks and weeks of rain (or at least it felt like that to us here in Boston!) we finally got a single sunny day! Lucky me, I had an invitation to a garden party at a friend's house :) His daughter turned ONE, and what better way to celebrate than with good Indian food, Badminton and Volleyball games, great conversations, dance performances, and ice cream and cake! By the way, it looks like I wasn't attending the party... I'm seriously in no single picture! I had to steal one from a friend off of Facebook to prove that I *was* there.

Nachdem wir wochenlang im Regen festsaßen (oder zumindest schien es hier in Boston so zu sein) hatten wir endlich einen sonnigen Tag! Glücklicherweise hatte ich eine Einladung zu der Gartenparty eines Freundes. Seine Tochter ist ein Jahr alt geworden, und das ist natürlich Grund zum Feiern - mit leckerem Indischen Essen, Badminton- und Volleyballspielen, netter Konversation, Tanzeinlagen, und Eis und Kuchen! Übrigens, es sieht so aus als ob ich nicht bei der Party war... Ich hab kein einziges Bild von mir! Ich musste mir eins von einem Freund "ausleihen" um euch zu beweisen dass ich da war.

Charles River Festival

My friend Laura came to visit this weekend. Luckily for us, the weather was finally beautiful again (after about a week of on-and-off rain), and the Charles River Festival was happening on Saturday! We got to hear some great live music, visit artist and vendor booths, get free food samples (always a hit with poor college students!), watch a lion dance, make hand soap and help bind a book, watch hip hop and swing dance performances... and we ended the day with a serving of great ice cream :)

Meine Freundin Laura kam am Wochenende zu Besuch. Glücklicherweise war das Wetter schön (nachdem wir gerade eine regnerische Woche hinter uns hatten) und wir beschlossen zum Charles River Festival zu gehen. Es gab gute live Musik, Stände mit Selbstgebasteltem, Kostproben von verschiedenen Getränken und Essen (sowas lieben arme Studenten!), eine Löwentanz Vorführung, und Hip Hop- und Swingtanzvorführungen. Wir durften auch selber Seife herstellen (und mitnehmen!) und halfen, ein Buch zu binden. Der Tag endete mit sehr gutem Eis :)

Yellow Roses

When my parents came to visit in May for Julia's Graduatioin, my Mom got me some beautiful yellow roses for the bookshelf. They lasted pretty long, but the petals started drying out last week. I was about to throw the bouquet out, when I noticed that there are a bunch of new leaves growing out of the rose stalks! I'm not quite sure what to do with them, but for now, I watered them again... :) The first pictures shows the roses in full bloom, and the second picture shows the dried out petals and the new leaves. The new leaves are mainly growing inside the vase.

Meine Eltern kamen im Mai zu Besuch für Julia's Abschluss. Meine Mutter hatte mir wunderschöne gelbe Rosen für meine Wohnung gekauft. Die Schnittblumen haben erstaunlich lange gehalten, aber letzte Woche habe ich dann doch beschlossen sie rauszuwerfen, weil die Blütenblätter getrocknet sind. Als ich mir die Blumen jedoch genau angeschaut habe, ist mir aufgefallen dass ganz viele neue Blätter sprießen! Ich bin nicht ganz sicher was ich damit anfangen soll, aber es tut mir um die neuen Blätter leid. Also hab ich ihnen erst mal frisches Wasser gegeben... :) Im ersten Bild blühen die Rosen, und im zweiten Bild sind die Blütenblätter vertrocknet, aber die neuen Blätter sprießen (hauptsächlich in der Vase).

Sunny Day in April

Back in April, Lisa and I went up to New Hampshire to visit Julia at UNH. It was one of the early sunny days, and while a little chilly, it made for a nice day outside!

Im April sind Lisa und ich nach New Hampshire zur University of New Hampshire hochgefahren, um Julia zu besuchen. Es war ein einer der ersten sonnigen Tage -- noch etwas kühl, aber trotzdem sehr schön!

Spontaneous Trip to Philadelphia

Lisa and I went on a very spontaneous trip to Philly to visit her boyfriend James in early May. The weather was beautiful, and we had a great time seeing the sights! I arranged some of the pictures we took below.

Lisa, meine Mitbewohnerin, und ich, haben einen sehr spontanen Ausflug nach Philadelphia gemacht, um ihren Freund James zu besuchen (etwa acht Stunden im Bus). Das Wetter war wunderschön und wir hatten viel Spaß! Ein paar der Bilder könnt ihr unten sehen.

Day Trip to Salem, Massachusetts

I like the Witch Town a lot. Fortunately, it's only a half-hour train ride away from Boston! It looks like since last I went, they added a new statue of Samantha (main character in the show "Bewitched")... There are more pictures on my camera, but I just haven't gotten to them just yet. Be patient for more to come =)

Ich mag die Hexenstadt in Massachusetts sehr! Glücklicherweise ist sie nur eine halbe Zugstunde von Boston entfernt! Es sieht so aus, als ob sie (seit ich das letzte Mal da war) eine neue Statue aufgestellt haben: Samantha, von "Verliebt in eine Hexe" :) Es gibt noch mehr Salem-Bilder auf meiner Kamera, ich habe es nur noch nicht geschafft, sie alle runterzuladen =)

Brookline is a lot of fun, but somehow, it looks even nicer in these pictures :)

Brookline ist ein schöner kleiner Stadtteil in Boston. Komischerweise sieht es noch viel schöner aus in diesen Bildern :)

Spring Break in Iceland

I know, who would go to a cold place like ICELAND for their spring break...?! My sister Julia and I decided to brave the nordic winds and made it on the plane anyways, and it turned out to be one of the best spring breaks we had so far! These are some of the pictures we took. Of course I have way more... just need to get to them! Enjoy :)

Wer würde seine Ferien gerne an einem kalten Ort verbringe?! Meine Schwester Julia und ich haben im März beschlossen, den kalten Nordwinden zu trotzen und sind trotzdem ins Flugzeug gestiegen... und wir hatten eine der besten Ferienwochen! Hier sind ein paar unserer Bilder. Natürlich gibt es davon noch viel mehr... ich muss nur dazu kommen, sie zu "bearbeiten." Viel Spaß :)

Why am I publishing a Photo Blog?

I realized I have a lot of photos. Most of them are digital, and for now, they are just collecting (virtual) dust on my hard drive. Recently, I started using Photoshop to put together scrapbook pages. At some point, when I have enough pages to warrant a book, I want to print and bind them. For now, however, I'll put them up on this blog as I make them. Feel free to click on the pictures for larger versions. I am still learning, so feedback is always welcome! I'll try to publish the posts in English and German =)

Ich hab festgestellt dass ich viele Fotos habe. Die meisten sind im Digitalformat, und bis jetzt sammeln sie nur virtuellen Staub auf meiner Festplatte. Seit einiger Zeit spiele ich mit Photoshop herum. Ich bin dabei, ein paar Fotoalbumseiten zusammenzustellen. Wenn ich genug habe, will ich sie ausdrucken und zu einem Buch binden lassen. Für's Erste veröffentliche ich sie allerdings erst mal in diesem Blog. Klick auf die Bilder um sie zu vergrößern. Ich bin immer noch dabei neue Sachen zu lernen; hilfreiche Kommentare sind immer wilkommen! Ich werde versuchen alles auf Englisch und Deutsch zu schreiben... "am vierten Mai werden wir bei euch sein"... nein, hoffentlich passiert mir sowas nicht!
